Welcome to the Department of Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology is a committed and dedicated part of the Cancer Institute at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Our locations are housed at the Jackson Medical Mall (UMMC Cancer Institute) and on the Lower Level (Main Hospital) of UMMC.  Both locations provide the best services that will help our patients and their families face the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. The mission of the Radiation Oncology department is to treat patients with compassionate, comprehensive, coordinated care, while aiming to improve their quality of life. 

Our faculty and staff takes pride in treating our patients utilizing the expertise of a multidisciplinary team along with "State of the Art" equipment. Our facility is equipped with three Elekta Synergy Linac Accelerators with Image Guided capabilities; a Philips CT and Magnetic Resonance Simulator Scanner for the best images of treatment positions and plans; and a High Dose Radiation Treatment Delivery System (HDR) to deliver brachytherapy treatments.

The vision of the Radiation Oncology department at UMMC is to become one of the top 20 centers in the country in patient care and education and provide non-discriminating state of the art care with Compassion and Professionalism.   

All of our staff is committed to patient care goals even though the department is made up of several components.  The clinical section is part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and is composed of physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, dosimetrists, therapists, and CT technologist. Our Physicians are faculty of the University of Mississippi Health Sciences Division and sectioned under the Department of Radiation Oncology. The departmental administrative staff is made up of key components also which operate to make patient flow as easy as possible.

RESEARCH, EDUCATION, TEACHING, AND TRAINING

Our Radiation Oncology Department is also committed to life long learning. Radiation Oncology is that branch of clinical concerned with the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer and certain nonneoplastic conditions utilizing ionizing radiation.  With Research and Education being a commitment of our University our objective is to Teach and Train physicians to be skillful in the practice of radiation onocology.  Our current Radiation Oncology Residency Program has four (4) approved residency position which are now filled.  If you would like to know about our Program of Residency, please follow the next link to learn more.
